“When you grow up surrounded by love and human attitude towards each other, you remain open and apparently in some way a naive person” – considers Evgenia Vasilchenko.
After graduating from a technical university where she became fascinated with Japan (Basho… Hokusai…), she began to master this world from a blank sheet and in order not to get lost in it, there was a desire to make a series of graphic works like Escher or Goya. Then appear the white poems and the idea to combine the graphics with the words in the book.
The “black and white period” of the artist has not ended, but she is increasingly using color in graphics.

I was born in the city of Severodonetsk. This is Ukraine. And then everything around it.
You could say I was raised by my grandparents. They were doctors. My dad was an engineer and mom is a researcher. Her parents stayed far away…
Then my life was between Cherkasy and Kyiv… Schools… 21st Cherkasy and 135th Kyiv. After graduating from KPI, I worked as an engineer in various scientific institutes… and here a New Page of Life had forced to open for me…
1994
It all starts with work in Publishing Houses. I am especially grateful to the newspaper ’The Day’… First exhibitions… Old and New friends… Yoga… Travels… Crimea and Kyiv are my love! My first book of poems was published…
2011
The death of my father… which I experienced painfully… and if it were not for NIK… Return to Cherkasy… to my father’s apartment… Ten happy years with my husband NIK… Exhibitions… Dnipro… My second book of poems and graphics… And death again…
War… full-scale… illness and death of my husband… And a new return to myself… mother… cat… creativity…
I re-read what was written… and apparently, the graphics and poems still had more meaning for me… than one can judge from that…
